Workhorse News

Posted on January 7, 2010

When we introduced Workhorse IPA as a year round beer in 2007 with our opening of the 51st and Sandy brewery and restaurant, we had little idea what a monster we created. The beer started out as a seasonal that I created for our in-house IPA contest. The beer beat out 5 other IPAs brewed by Laurelwood brewers and won people’s choice award. workhorseLast year it took the crown at the National IPA Contest held by Great Lake Brewing News. It has also become the best selling beer at all our pubs. Problem was though, that we could never get enough hops to distribute the beer outside of our pubs- in other words, if you wanted a Workhorse, you had to go to a Laurelwood. Well, with the addition of a couple of fermenters this summer and a glut of hops on the market, we’re going to change all that. We’re shipping the first batches of Workhorse to our distributors this month. While supplies to them will be limited right now, we’re putting together plans to make all of our beer more available. So thank you to all our supporters! As I like to say, “You keep drinking it and we’ll keep making it.”

That’s fantastic news! Workhorse is my all time favorite IPA and beer in general for the most part. Watch out for those of you that think you already have a favorite IPA… because this one is going to kick it to the curb!

That’s great news although, since we have kids, we end up at Laurelwood more than anywhere anyway. I’ll look for it on our infrequent outings without the small ones. Workhorse is a fantastic IPA. Chad, keep the great beers coming and I WILL DRINK IT!!!! Cheers!

Who says dreams don’t come true? Best news of 2010! Now I don’t have to lug my growler around anymore and must tell my beer store to stock up. Happyhappyhappy.

Does this mean Workhorse will be available at New Seasons, Belmont Station, etc? That would be awesome.

We are looking to bottle the Workhorse this summer. It will be available at all of our pubs and where ever great beer is sold! It will have limited availability.

    Cheers!
