After nearly ten years of great memories and beer it is time to say goodbye!

For many of us the original Laurelwood Public House and Brewery on NE 40th and Sandy Blvd was our first Laurelwood home. We opened in March of 2001 and in 2007 when we took the main production facility and pub up the street, the 40th location became Laurelwood Pizza Company. We have had a great run with so many great memories and great beers! We feel so fortunate that we have made so many friends and literally watch many of our employees and customers children grow up. For nearly ten years you have helped us make Laurelwood a staple in not only the Hollywood District but also all of Portland and we want to say thank you. So this Monday, July 5th from 5pm-10pm we want to invite all of you to come out and raise one last pint of beer with us in memory and in honor of all the great times we had at our original brewery! Thank you all for so many great years!
Cheers!

Stratus Pale Ale

June 17, 2010 No comments yet

Today we are brewing a new beer called Stratus Pale Ale.  Stratus was created by Portland native and long time homebrewer Mark Easton.  Mark’s beer was hand picked by our Brewmaster Chad Kennedy as his favorite in the Oregon Brewcrew’s Fall Classic held this last November.  As one of the judges, Chad chose Mark’s beer and awarded him the opportunity to have his recipe brewed on our 15 bbl system.  Chad felt that quality of Stratus would translate very well on a larger scale and would be received with high marks from our customers.  Having tasted a sample that Mark brought us I would have to agree.

Mark describes Stratus Pale Ale as having “a unique high hop aroma with a very mild bitterness” measuring in around 40 IBUs.  He attributes this to his use of the hop varietal Citra, which he describes as having a very tropical or passion fruit flavor profile with less of the grapefruit style citrus notes that one would see in using a hop such as Amarillo or Cascade.  Mark brews on a ten gallon system at home and expects that brewing 465 gallons on our system will only make this beer “a bigger party!”  Look for Stratus Pale Ale to be released sometime in early July!

Are you A Hooligan?

June 16, 2010 1 comment

A bit of Laurelwood beer trivia for you. Our Hooligan Ale was inspired by the the Bill Buford book Among the Thugs. In the book, Buford documents his adventures with English soccer supporters- or hooligans. Most notably, he documents the riots during the 1990 World Cup in Turin, Italy. While we think our Hooligan Ale goes well with watching the World Cup, we hope you’ll take in the fun peacefully and avoid rioting.

Cheers!
