Chad and and the Laurelwood Brew Crew have been getting into the fall season this week and besides coming to work dressed as Harry Potter and Vampires, they decided to brew a special pumpkin beer. (No really they have been coming to work dressed as their favorite Harry Potter characters all week!) This beer (which is still un-named) will be heading up to Seattle for Eylisian Brewings 6th Annual Great Pumpkin Beer Festival. No need to fear for those of us who wont be able to make it up there. This great pumpkin patch of a beer will be avialable in Portland at the Laurelwood Public House and Brewery.
September 25th will mark the 9th annual Laurelfest celebration. We welcome you to come out an join us for our end of summer celebration with great food, the release of Laurelfest Lager and live music. Party starts at 3pm! See you there!

Today we are brewing a new beer called Stratus Pale Ale. Stratus was created by Portland native and long time homebrewer Mark Easton. Mark’s beer was hand picked by our Brewmaster Chad Kennedy as his favorite in the Oregon Brewcrew’s Fall Classic held this last November. As one of the judges, Chad chose Mark’s beer and awarded him the opportunity to have his recipe brewed on our 15 bbl system. Chad felt that quality of Stratus would translate very well on a larger scale and would be received with high marks from our customers. Having tasted a sample that Mark brought us I would have to agree.
Mark describes Stratus Pale Ale as having “a unique high hop aroma with a very mild bitterness” measuring in around 40 IBUs. He attributes this to his use of the hop varietal Citra, which he describes as having a very tropical or passion fruit flavor profile with less of the grapefruit style citrus notes that one would see in using a hop such as Amarillo or Cascade. Mark brews on a ten gallon system at home and expects that brewing 465 gallons on our system will only make this beer “a bigger party!” Look for Stratus Pale Ale to be released sometime in early July!
